Are You Listening, Will Shortz?!

I'll admit to being a fairweather fan of our local ballclubs. Though this wasn't always the case—in my youth I went to more than a few Giants and Niner games. But I was especially encouraged by a little item in today's Times about Giants pitcher Brian Wilson. In addition to his oddly tinted beard and his claims of being a "certified ninja and mental assasin", Wilson admits to being driven by an unlikely aspiration:

"I’d like to be a crossword clue one day,” he said. “I want to be in The New York Times’s Sunday edition. Right now, the clue ‘Giants great’ is always Mel Ott. I want my clue to be down, not across. The down ones are usually harder. And when I’m the clue, I’ll fill it in — just that one — and frame it. How sweet would that be?"

Hella sweet. Go Giants.
